The HJ-28M limited edition herringbone jumbo features a spruce top with mahogany sides & back, a combination that yields a dramatically strong and clear treble response. This powerful sound is further enhanced through the use of 5/16" scalloped braces, shifted forward in the vintage style to a position 1" from the sound hole. The bindings of grained ivoroid and herringbone marquetry delineate the perimeter of the top. A matching herringbone back inlay strip replaces the usual zig-zag inlay. Macassar ebony was chosen for the bridge & fingerboard. The characteristic striping and color variation of the Macassar has been left unstained to display its natural beauty. The mahogany neck is finished with maple stain prior to lacquering, as is the body and aging toner enhances the vintage appearance of the top. A low profile neck with a 1 11/16" fingerboard width at the nut provides fast action and easy fingering. The Schaller chrome tuning machines are appointed with ebony buttons which feature the Martin "M" inlaid in abalone on both faces of each button. Martin manufactured 72 of this model and each was signed by C.F. Martin IV.
